As an artist you have
to keep developing all your career. It’s a big mistake to think
you’re done at a certain point. And then you just continue. But you have to develop,
and develop, and develop. My name is Tina Berning. I’m an artist
and illustrator from Berlin, Germany. And I am mostly drawing. That’s my passion. Working as an illustrator
is a little bit tricky. After a while you find out
you start repeating yourself. You are in a circle. It sounds very simple now, but when you come from illustration being able to make everything perfect… It doesn’t make the picture better. The imperfections are the things
that are interesting. The imperfections are the things
where your eye stops. I developed this passion for old paper, with old imprints,
dates or just empty paper, and started drawing on it. Drawing on found paper means you never know what’s happening. Once the paint soaks in heavily. On the next paper it just pearls off. You are out of the situation
where you are controlling something, but you have to react. That is something I really appreciate. As an artist you really
have to find your own method how you keep your creativity going. Working as an artist I started to have exhibitions. And pretty late, but still in time, I started doing Instagram. With a growing audience people from all over the world
suddenly asked me about purchases. And I didn’t want to exclude them. That was the initial idea of opening up an online store. Selling art online is of course putting new dimensions
to the art market. On the other side,
as an artist working with galleries, it is impolite
to sell directly from your studio. So, I was asking Benjamin Jäger what he thinks about it. What we did from the beginning,
and we spoke a lot about it, we do this business
to share Tina’s works and to get in touch with the audience. It’s more like a marketing tool
that we have. Which makes me feel like a little shop. Which I love. The whole business side is run
by Benjamin, and I am happy about that. It makes loads of fun.
And we really enjoy it. -And we’re a good team.
