Self Care Through Art // Channel Trailer

Hello I’m Youhjung – artist and art
therapist and art making is an important part of my life. And here I’ll show you how I make art
for my own self care. In my daily life I practice yoga,
mindfulness, and meditation. I use breathing to ground myself before the art – it
really helps me become aware of tensions in my body and release them so that I
can enjoy the art process even more. When I’m making art for myself I usually choose one of the following mediums: watercolor, colored pencils, or oil
pastels. These are my go-to materials. However I also experiment and use a lot
of different mediums and materials. The way I approach my self care art
making is to express whenever I am dealing with at the moment, especially
how I’m feeling inside. Sometimes I know what that is and other times I don’t know
and I just started creating and let my hands lead me. Usually I would make self care art for at least 20 to 30 minutes and then clean away the area and then create some time to
reflect on my artwork. I find that connecting with the art after I finished
really helps me to gain a lot of insight. Making art you can reduce anxiety lessen
than our stress, relieve depression and improve our self-esteem. It really helps
us to live with more awareness and intention and just be more mindful in
our life. For me it’s really important to communicate with my own art and listen
to it, understand it, and give it empathy. I’ll be sharing more videos on art
therapy and how to do self art therapy exercises each week so make sure if you like this
to subscribe and visit my website thirstyforart.com if you want to learn
more about me Thank you for watching ♥︎

/ I never thought much into self-care before… I had always just went with the flow of things or just work. But I find that cleaning, walking my dog, or taking showers in the morning always help alleviate some stress in me.

❣️Hi Youhjung, I just found your channel through a comment under the last video of your sister and there I commented, which is my favourite method to relax and even heal: painting. And it’s totally the same way like you’re doing it, what’s in my mind is to be seen on the paper later, not literally, but woven in little fairy tales, which I sometimes write down. Thank you for sharing, I’ll follow you, too, of course!! Love from Germany, Monika❣️

  • Paynes says:

I walk my dog, looking at birds, studying flowers, leaves, trees, beach strolling, picking tiny pebbles, sea shells and sea glass, listen to the waves, sitting in the sunshine, in the wind or rain. I sleep often, I read and sometimes when I feel inspired paint with non toxic vegan watercolours. Cuddling my dog. I really like your videos a lot!💗🌟🌿💗🌟🌿💗🌟🌿

Love your channel! Have been here since the first video ^^
I don't make art as much as I used to as a kid, but if I do, it really calms me down… The only form of art I do still regularly do is sewing! It's very meditative as well but it's not something I do 'intuitively' or I can reflect back on.
