HCSD Fine Arts Fun Facts with Tari McKee


I’m Tari McKee, the Fine Arts Director
for the Hamilton City School District. Did you know Hamilton City Schools has a
long-standing tradition of providing a strong education in Fine Arts for all
students in grades K through 12? Our elementary art and music programs
provide students with a foundation and exposure necessary to be successful at
the secondary level. Many of our elementary school art music teachers
host before, or after school programs such as, art club, drum ensembles, orff ensembles, and choirs. Did you know the Hamilton High Marching Band has
qualified for the Ohio Music Educators Association state finals for the past
seven years in a row by earning superior ratings at OMEA a sanctioned events? This
year the band brought home its first ever superior rating at OMEA Marching
Band State Finals. Did you know the art of our students is proudly displayed at
every school in the district, the district Central Office, as well as many
public buildings in the area? HHS art students have completed three
murals at Hamilton High with three more in progress. With the ever growing
nationwide popularity of murals, we have created a class dedicated to the art of
mural painting. Did you know in the past five years we have seen great growth in
our secondary instrumental classes? Our secondary band enrollment has increased
by 28%, while our orchestra enrollment has increased by 48%. Currently around
40% of our secondary students participate in a school ensemble,
including band, orchestra, and choir as a class during the day. Additionally, our
secondary extracurricular performing groups boasts memberships of nearly 500 students. Did you know Hamilton High offers AP Art Studio and AP Music Theory for
those students wishing to take their high school Fine Arts experience to a
higher level? Many of our students major in art or music, or continue their fine
arts education in some capacity in college. Hamilton Fine Arts is truly the
