DRAWSOME | Week 2 | #Drawing LOOSE #TEA

Hello everyone and welcome to video 100!
This week is week two of the drawsome challenge which I am doing together with
my friend at Aurora’s Art World. We’ve come up with this list of prompts
for the whole year and we’ll be sketching and studying a different
subject every week. I will leave a link to the playlist in the iCard section
somewhere over here so you can catch up if this is the first drawsome video
you’re watching. If you want to be featured in our next video, make sure to
use hashtag #DRAWSOMESQUAD and upload your sketches for this week’s prompt to
Instagram. Make sure you tag both Aurora and myself so we can see your work. Your
work will be featured at the end of the next video. So, I’m all set
I’ve got my tea, it’s chamomile tea by Twinings. I’ve got my sketchbook, I’ve got
my watercolors, decadent pies by prima marketing… that just
didn’t happen… It actually has a tea flavor, my favorite tea flavor and I
think these colors really represent teas very very well. Yes they have been used
but I absolutely love them. And then I’ve got my watercolor brush pen, a rag to clean
my brush on and a sketching pencil. And this is a Uni Kuru Toga 0.7 pencil
and I got that this week because I wanted to draw with a mechanical pencil
in color but I didn’t have the leads, the colored leads. So I got them in
purple, red and a blue just for this challenge. I only had green and that
didn’t show up on the camera, so I got these colors instead. And a new sketching
pencil as well because I lost my other one for some reason, don’t know where
that went, and this way I don’t have to constantly
sharpen my colored pencil. But anyway let’s start! This week’s prompt is loose
tea, so let’s get started. I’m just gonna put my watercolors aside for now because
I will probably be coloring at the end. That was last week and let’s move on to
this week. I have my planner here mainly because this sketchbook otherwise
doesn’t lie flat because I’m just starting it, obviously. It does definitely
lie flat in the middle, that’s not a problem, but this is just a bit easier.
Also I’ve added these bookmarks to my sketchbook. If you want to do that
yourself, it is very easy. This is basically what
it is. It’s a strip of two papers with the pieces of string or ribbon in
between. This is the smallest ribbon, or the thinnest ribbon, I had on hand. I
burned the edges so they’re not fraying and I just glued them in between these
two strips of paper. It’s not the best job but it does the trick. You slide it into the spine here. Push it
down a little bit, there you have it! Your own bookmarks and it won’t slide out at
all, it’s nice and secure. That way I can mark my pages. So some
loose tea… Let’s have a look at what I pinned. Also, as I said,
before I will leave my Pinterest page in the link below so you can all check out
what references I used. So, what I have in front of me here is a vile with loose tea
coming out of it. So this would just be the sticks and all the twigs that I can
see. It says here a very unique and intriguing tea. Ceylon UVA or uva with
camellia sinensis flowers. Never heard of them but camellia I have heard of and
they’re yellow. So because of the reflection, you can’t see the tea in the
reflection itself. Because it’s a large reflection I’m leaving a bit of space on
the side on the sides here because you just simply can’t see the tea there. So I
suppose this is the middle of the flower. You can just give the illusion of it
being a flower and there’s another petal here. It’s very open to
interpretation this because it is a sketch and seriously: I so have to control
myself on not getting into too much detail. There is another flower here
which has these… It’s very pretty. I don’t mind having that in my tea cup. So the inner part of the flowers is basically this
and then the leaves are basically, how do you call that, folded out almost, folded
down like a flower when it’s wilted. Let’s give that some
color. This is just a towel rag basically. I have a little one and I just, we don’t use that many of these rags anymore for her. So we have about
twenty of them so they become my watercolor paint rags and I can just
wash them so I’m not using up all the kitchen towel. Let me see… Pistachio cream. It’s a very nice shade for this. And again I’m gonna keep it sketchy
so I’m just going in with a little bit of color. And you know tea is always, it’s
a bit of a mess. You get what I mean, it’s it’s absolutely stunning to look at
though, loose tea. But still my favorite tea remains Earl Grey, Earl Grey with milk and a little bit of sugar or sweetener.
I’m just letting my watercolor brush give whatever water is in there and then
I’ll just let it dry. And then I’ll probably go over that with a second layer Hey
look at that, it actually looks like something! I can probably add some
shading underneath here. I’m gonna let it dry, let’s move on to the next image.
So this next one is a wooden spoon with rosebuds on it. I think is rosebuds?
yep, dried rosebuds. Let’s find a shape of this spoon. It’s a
wooden spoon. The color would probabably probabably… Banana cream or this pumpkin… Oh makes
me so hungry. These colors are so beautiful that’s
where the spoon goes. So everything in this, all the empty space will be the rosebuds. First
little rosebud is here. Just gonna color in the general shapes first. Oh!
that’s another question for you guys. So I don’t have a pencil case but I have an
old school kinda, how do you call that? A wooden pencil box if you will. So my
question for you guys is: would you be interested in me showing you what’s in
my wooden pencil box? Because I know that people are sometimes interested in what
people use for their art supplies, so maybe you’re interested in mine? I don’t
know, let me know in the comments. All right, so now that I’ve got the general
shapes of my rosebuds Let’s try to give it a little bit
more definition. They have absolutely gorgeous colors,
that’s, it’s bright pink and I don’t have that color in my color palette but I
might use the, maybe I can use Apple. Mix it with white, I get that
nice pinky pinky shade. I’ll try it. Well the shape (no) the color the rosebuds
have is probably more like a Rose Madder kind of beautiful color and I don’t have
that in this palette but I do in my Winsor & Newton. I really like how this is
turning out. It’s still not dry but that’s okay. I don’t think it bleeds through? Just goes a
bit, a little bit, it warps a little bit but that’s okay. Over time, when you use a
sketchbook, it goes flat again so and also it’s a sketchbook so we can do
whatever we want to. Also if you’re concerned about whatever is in your
sketchbook: don’t be! It’s yours! If you don’t want to show anyone what’s in
your sketchbook, you don’t show them what’s in your sketchbook. That’s very
simple. If they still want to see it just say no, it’s personal. It’s yours. It is
it’s your place to feel safe and it’s your place to practice and no one
else has anything to do with that whatsoever. And sure we youtubers create
for our audience and we should probably show them our flaws as well but if
you’re not happy with it don’t show it. okay I’ve got my kneadable eraser here
and I’m just gonna slightly erase it so I can put some watercolor on it.
Let’s start with that very light spoon color. I did not activate these
colors. These activate so so quickly and I don’t need a lot. That pistachio cream
is actually metallic so now then it’s drying: can you see the shimmer in that?
That’s pretty cool. I mean, I know this is a sketchbook page and well no one said
that I can’t use watercolors in my sketchbook, so I’m just doing it but I
was intending to have this sketchbook just as like this page throughout. But I
really really really wanted to use my watercolors. So here we are. This is where
that green comes in. It’s just a little bit at the bottom so because the leaves
are dry they’re mainly like this cream beige and ever so slightly green like
that. But that is more yellow. Let’s see if I
can mix some of this apple with this white mocha. This white mocha has a
little bit of shimmer to it which is pretty cute. I’m gonna break out my pink
from my Winsor & Newton because this is not… this is not doing it for me. So this
is my Winsor & Newton Cotman set. It has all these magical
colors and I’m pretty sure what I’m looking at is Rose madder. So now I need
some yellow. I hope this looks like rose buds to you. Here we go, I kind of like it. So what I found here is loose tea in one of
those tea balls that you can put your loose tea in. It goes around the corner so
it comes together and this is that dome, the dome where the tea sits in.
And then it lies open so that comes from this side and goes around like so. That clippy thing sits there. There’s a tea leaf
coming up there and then it’s got that silvery kind of vibe to it and then it has a chain. And then there’s a few pink blobs in
here as well. So beautiful browns and the pinks next to each other. There’s some
more petal stuffs here, strands, oh I think pine? I kind of like it… I kind of like it!
okay let’s see if we can do some more. Lavender Earl grey… yes please! So we’ve
got this Twinings tin and then there is this thingamabob.
I have a little more space there. This is cute! So don’t know if you’re familiar with
these plants that open in your cup. It’s like a, it’s like a flower and it
it’s it’s a ball and once you put in your tea it opens up and that’s pretty
cool so that’s what I’ve got in front of me. Maybe we can give this Twinings box box a bit of a color because it’s sort of a yellow. There we go.
All right, let’s start this last sketch. There we go, it’s hot. Looks like an
aloe vera, in a glass… Looks like a spider too.
So, let’s just add… There’s just a little bit of yellow at the bottom and then the
thing itself is green. And you know what? I did not use my Earl Grey color once.
It’s like this silvery colo… And that’s my favorite tea… And that’s it for this
