3D Holographic Glitter Cube Nail Art Design

Kirsty: Hi everybody, I’m Kirsty Meakin from Naio Nails. In this video, we’re gonna do a modern design using something that’s very simple. If you’ve seen the thumbnail at the beginning of this video, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Adam: I hate when you do this because I haven’t seen the thumbnail. Kirsty: So, everything we gonna use is all in a little pot. I quite like this. These diamond-shaped bits of glitter, they come from collections that we have. So, we have this sort of silver collection and holographic collection. And then, hold on, and we’ve got an iridescent one as well. So, I’ve chosen the same shapes out of those collections. I’ve also got a little bit of the Chrome Flakes as well we’re gonna add a bit of that into it. And I’m gonna use black as my base colour. You don’t have to use black, you can use whatever you want but because we’re using this iridescent colour over black. Damn, it looks so nice! So, we’re gonna use Serious Black as our base colour. If you’re doing this on a natural nail, you’d apply your base, so your Urban Graffiti Base Coat, first of all and then you go on with two coats of colour and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do now. I’m gonna put two coats of Serious Black, even though that probably doesn’t need another coat. Adam: No!
Kirsty: So, we’d just do one. Adam: I think so. Kirsty: That’s over a white nail, that’s amazing. Adam: One coat of Serious Black.
Kirsty: One coat of Serious Black… Adam: Is seriously black.
Kirsty: It’s seriously black. Let’s pop that into the lamp. Kirsty: Right! What I’m gonna do now, is I’m gonna take some top coat but I’m gonna do it really thin, so you’ll see the drag lines. So, you can see how I’m really splaying the brush and I want it super thin because all I’m doing with this is using it as an adhesive. But I don’t want it to be really wet because I don’t want these little pieces to actually slide around like that. So, I’m gonna open these and I hope that I’m not gonna chuck them everywhere. I think today is the fiddly day. Everything we’ve done today has been…ooh!…a bit fiddly. So, I’m gonna just shake some of those in there. I’m gonna move that out of the way. Adam: Oh, yeah! You haven’t got a lid on because you’re using…
Kirsty: I’m using the lid. Adam: Sensible
Kirsty: Oh, look at them. They look nice! Kirsty: Okay, so we’ve got our little tiny little piece of glitter. So, what I’m gonna do with these is, we’re gonna create a cube. I’m gonna start here and you’re gonna leave a tiny gap between each one. Don’t push them together, you want that little bit of black showing through. Adam: Why?
Kirsty: Because it looks like a cube then. If you don’t leave that little bit of black, it doesn’t actually look like a cube. It’d just look like a full piece of large glitter. We want it to look like an actual cube because we’re doing cube nails. When I was little, I used to go to a place called The Cube. Quite illegally to be honest because you’re supposed to be eighteen and I was fifteen. And I’m not advising anybody to do this. I was actually with my brother who was the right age, so was being looked after. But yeah, we loved the Cube. Adam: Is that like your, your ritzy, local…
Kirsty: Yeah! Adam: …disco?
Kirsty: Yeah. Adam: I worked in a nightclub from being sixteen as a dancer. Kirsty: You’ve told me this story. I’m yet to see Adam’s moves. Adam: There’s no footage of it because it was before camera phones. There’s no photos, really. I don’t think there is anywhere. People just didn’t do like photographs back then because you never had like, …a phone on you. Very rarely do people take cameras out. Kirsty: Yeah, not now. Not then I mean. I mean, now that’s what they do. Kirsty: So, you see the iridescent one is sort of a different colour, if you look. When they’re actually on the black, they go like a flame colour. Adam: It’s slipping a little bit, that one.
Kirsty: I know this one is slipping, so I’m gonna drag it off Kirsty: and that’s gonna drag some of the product off with it. So, some of the top coat will come off with it. And then we’ll pick up another piece, and hopefully that one, will not move as much. Adam: If you weren’t as careful as you, would you just put like, maybe like a little splurge and then do one at a time? Kirsty: Yeah, we can do that I’m sure.
Adam: And cure them in-between. Kirsty: Right! So, once I’ve got these cubes in the right position, I will cure them. I’ll show you we can just do it individually as well. So, just pop a little bit on. Can you see? You can see the little lines of the brush, so you know that it is… …really quite fine, very dry application of the top coat. Adam: And do you do that so they don’t slide around as much?
Kirsty: Yeah, you only want a little bit of stickiness. Kirsty: I was gonna try to rely on the sticky layer of the actual colour, so the Serious Black, but when I put the top coat on, they definitely would move. So, you can do it individually like that, and then you can just flash-cure that …and move on to your next one. So, I’m gonna do some more cubes of this side as well. And then, I am gonna put some more up there. I’m loving how when you spin this, they actually look like cubes on the nail. How cool is that? And I figured out if you put it on, put the top coat on, then give it a tap, it just takes off a little bit of that excess and that’s even easier to put your pieces on with. So, it’s just a little bit sticky. Right! So, I’ve done all my cubes. So, I wanted to kind of offset them, I didn’t want to do like rows, I wanted them just be a little bit offset. Right! Then I’m gonna topcoat. They look so cool! They’re very fine, so topcoating them will seal them in really well. I will do two top coats because I’m gonna use some of the Chrome Flakes as well, just around the edge here and here. So, applying two top coats will encapsulate those glitter pieces. Oh my God, I love it. Pop it in the lamp. So, I’m gonna use the slanted tool and I use this for mixing paint and all sorts, but you can actually use this to pick up some of the Chrome Flakes. Place them on. Make sure they’re nice and flat. Do some up here as well. That just adds a little bit of interest to those corners as well. And we can topcoat. That’ll seal in the Chrome and also double-seal in those cubes. I’m gonna pop that into the lamp. That is so cool! Look at it when you turn it. What?! That’s messing with my mind! That is so cool! They’re like actual cubes sticking out the nail. Oh my God! I could do this all day. Kirsty: Look at it, Adam. You’re not appreciating the…
Adam: I like it. It’s really cool. Kirsty: Ah, thank you! Adam: You’re like a kid…
Kirsty: I know! Adam: …you need the recognition, don’t you?.
Kirsty: I just think you need to appreciate how cool it is. It’s like messing with my head. Kirsty: Wow! Love it! I hope you guys a love it as much as me. I might just sit and stare at this a little bit longer because I love it that much. Everything I’ve used today will be listed below in that description box.
